Notes
The first of a series of 19 books which the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul dictated, by mental telepathy, through Alice Bailey. (Bailey herself wrote six additional volumes.) The Master DK, in one of His functions, is an abbot of a lamasery in Tibet (Shigatse) and wrote, in a statement from 1934: "Those associated with me in the work of the Hierarchy ... know me by still another name and office."
As a universal process, initiation is described in this book as an expansion of consciousness and, therefore, the result of the ability to penetrate the higher levels of reality which were previously veiled by glamours and illusions.
"Study the requirements for initiation as given in Initiation, Human and Solar, by Alice Bailey. Consider as objectively and honestly as possible how far you fulfill these requirements or not. In this way you should be able to assess your probable point in evolution. Of course, objectivity and self-knowledge are of the essence here... A glance at the ray chart of initiates [included in the Maitreya's Mission books] will further help self-assessment." (Benjamin Creme in Maitreya's Mission, Vol.I, p.184.)
The dust cover below is that of the 1933 edition.
Also referenced in Benjamin Creme, The Reappearance of the Christ and the Masters of Wisdom (p.249, 1979ed) and in The Ageless Wisdom Teaching (p.61, 1996ed).
